BP has no interest in doing anything to stop the oil leak that might mess up the flow of oil. That's why their only proposal is to wait until they get another well down there.
"Bruso moved to Chicago soon after, where he worked as a cab driver for two decades, picking fights with police on the side. Bruso first came to San Francisco in 1989 — he says he came to see the hippies (although Anne says it was to chase a woman). He recalls living homeless for two years, before getting disability payments and a room at the Casa Melissa hotel alongside Washington Square Park."
Yea. In a cop raid they always shoot the dog, even if it's tied up. It quiets people down. They're all like "how dare you come in here! You have no right!".
What makes you think this is a partisan issue? Both parties love them some Mexicans, but Obama is going over the line in trying to fight a law passed by the Arizona people.
But isn't it weird that in the 14 years since the Republicans took over Congress in '94, absolutely none of the Republicans in Arizona made any demands on their party to do something about the illegals?
Isn't it likely that they really don't give a shit, and are only making a ruckus now because it's something to use against Obama?
Teams of corporate lawyers will make pitches to clients where they provide detailed information about legal claims and defenses regarding the client's situation. This is a pitch for business and they don't bill for it. And this is at the highest level of elite law firms. So I don't see how this guy can bill for what is essentially a sales pitch.
But they're selling a yearly retainer worth maybe millions.
But that was the weird thing I found out in the computer business. Customers are happier if you bill then a 10 grand a year support contract, rather than billing them for actual time used.
You've never had to deal with scumbag lawyers, have you?
Some. I've found that if you ask them for just a letter you can save a lot of money. Lawyers can make nasty letters, and the person who get it thinks you retained him.
Well, I used to bill people like that, by the quarter hour. They didn't like it, but I had no choice.
The thing that's hard for business people to understand is that when they talk to a customer, that customer might one day by 10 products from them and they'll make a huge profit. There's no upside like that to a lawyer or anyone working by the hour.
It's possible that he's trying to save you money. The posters here are throwing around the word "retainer", a retainer for a guy like that could be 5 or 10 grand. Your buddy could have spent some time convincing him to give you a break.
The other thing to remember is that if this guy really is good, he's not hurting for customers. He's looking for that 10 or 20% of the customers who need him and who are also not going to give him any bullshit about his charges.
The Economist ran a story some years ago about a study that proved that corporations act less morally than individuals. Because corporations are simply collections of individuals, the reason why this is so is an interesting mystery.
It's not really a mystery. I've seen this happen in even smaller companies.
