Edmunds review for the Smart Car really cracked me up.

Especially this bit:

Acceleration Comments: Best acceleration numbers came with a simple off-brake/on-gas procedure. Brake torque hurts acceleration and this turd doesn't need anything else hampering its acceleration.

Damb.

That product does need some help, though. Like actually getting good gas mileage, etc.

It needs to be completely scrapped.

I passed one while riding my bike last week. It had 4 people in it and was struggling with the load. Engine sounded like shit.

To be fair, it was on a bumpy road, but the driver looked very nervous seeing me approach in his rear view. He knew I would be passing him. Hard to explain, but I think he was embarrassed.

:nono: That wasn't embarassment, it was the pale green hue of a wave of queasiness that washed over him when he realized that within moments he and his passengers would be looking at YOUR rear view. :yak:

NO! I like it because it is so easy to spot the most clueless, dumbest liberal douchbags out there on the road.

Why are they clueless?

I happen to own one. There is some interesting engineering in the car.

Gas mileage is under reported for these cars, I consistently get mid 40's in mixed city driving. I'm told that when you get over 5000 miles on them the mileage goes up to 50 on the highway.

But I did not buy it for the mileage, bought it because I thought it was an interesting car. I have taken it on a long (600 mile) trip, it does 80, 85 MPH with no problems.

All of you aspergers "afraid to kiss a girl, I might get a germ" or "afraid to ride a motorcycle" or "afraid to leave the house" folks can now all chime in on how I am going to die. Which is probably true, I drive this car, fly a Cessna, have a scuba certification and ride a motorcycle.

Some interesting smart car stories here:

And there is a You Tube video of a test where they run one into a cememt barrier at 75 MPH. And the doors still open and close.

If you own one you are a tool because you paid 25k for a geo metro

Oh yeah? You're a fucking idiot and it shows. Here's a REAL WORLD TEST:

There is absolutely no fucking way anyone in the Smart Car would survive that crash. Everyone in the other car would walk away.

A little under 16. And they are better equipped and built than the Metro's were.

Again, I did not buy it because I needed a car, I have several cars. I bought it because I thought it was an interesting vehicle.

Interesting that the passenger compartments in both vehicles were still intact after the collision.

So it makes the bodies easy to extract. Big deal. The G forces the people in the Smart Car would encounter would be fatal. Watch the video. The Mercedes slowed down. The Smart was sent straight backwards and then rolled.

Two fatals in the Smart and maybe some whiplash in the Mercedes.

Why not? The compartment wasn't smashed. The dummies would have been missing limbs or something if it was a deadly accident.

The G-forces would have been about the same in regular car.

Oh really? So the G forces in the rollover were the same in both cars. Quit digging when you're in a hole, moron.

For something that fucking small it should easily get 60-70 MPG.

Christ, the Civic VX from a few years back could get 60. And was able to haul 4 people and some luggage. All the Smart can haul is two limp dick douches.

It's exactly the opposite. The mercedes was stopped suddenly, which means more G force. The smart car crumpled, meaning the inertia forces were dissipated over more time, meaning less G force.
