I wish people lived to be 110 so I can ask how they coped with the great depression and get an answer from someone who lived it as an adult.

Well youre in luck then, cause Im pretty sure that super inflation is coming to a neighborhood near you sooner than later. Thats why Ive been short dollar yen since 124. And I was short both Citigroup and BoA over $40 last year. Which I why Im retired at 33 and why you just got promoted to assistant barista at your local Starbucks.

It looks to me like they want to desperately re-inflate the bubbles.

Can this go on forever?

Look at Detroit. That is what N. America is going to look like when these fuckers are done ruining it.

Some pain, like we experienced in the 1970s. But in the long run (like over ten years) it would burn off the debt load and right the economy.

The sky-is-falling, America-is-doomed types have no historical perspective. They say now that they were confident back then in the future, but they were just as pissy back then about societal change.

America has loads of wealth and loads of economic potential. Stagflation would toughen us up, get our priorities more straight, and as an added bonus lead to an artistic and cultural renaissance -- like what happened in the 1970s.

The problem is that people have bought into the whole Business Week-CNBC-Money Magazine view that the country is only healthy when its economy is booming. This isn't true, and history shows this isn't true. We'll get through this like we got through the 1930s, the late 1940s, the 1970s, and the early 1990s. This isn't the end of the business cycle ... there is good times in the future, just as there is another crash after that.
