And this for a girl who got 2 Cs on her last report card.

worth it.

Only if you have that kind of money to throw around.

Otherwise you can decent stuff from L. L. Bean for about 1/3 the price.

PS: Don't give in. Put the money in her college fund or something.

What City, State do you live in? If you live in the North, and have temps in the low teens, sure otherwise tell her the stop being such a whore and get her a Colombia jacket.

Kids who get part time jobs usually fuck up their grades. She should fucking study and find less pretentious friends.

Oh, and that is "fucking study" not "study fucking" which is what she is unfortunately probably doing already.

How old is she? Did you install a hidden camera in her bedroom? Ever sniff her dirty underwear?

WalMart has plenty of winter clothes.

This thread brings up an issue I often wonder about. How do parents deal when it starts to dawn on them that their children might turn out to be disappointments? Desiring the coat is not unreasonable, but expecting it without having done anything for it (or worse, underperforming, as evident by her two Cs) is a red flag.

I once graded tenth grade essays for the state of New Jersey - the topic was "Who has more stress in their lives - parents or their children?"

Almost 30% said children have more stress because they're under pressure to have the right clothes, shoes and electronic gear like cellphones if they want be regarded as something other than a loser. Their self-esteem and identity comes from material shit they acquire at the mall.

If you want your daughter to be just another shallow, shit-for-brains, average nobody - buy her the North Face.

there are plenty of other places - mail order like Lands End, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer... even large department store chains would have the same quality at a lower price.

REI will even have deals - same fabric, same insultion... maybe even better colors or style. You gotta break your kids free from brand name brainwashing early, because it starts with whatever television shows they watch. They marketers can even corrupt 5 year olds.

Bean's stuff is always high quality. Probably can get a nice looking jacket for under $100.

Friend of mine had her son starting golf at his HIGH SCHOOL. He talked her into buying $400 shoes at Nordstrom. Instead of $30 ones at Big Five.

PS: He never played golf after the class ended.

Here's a comparable from Bean's:

$119.

To be fair, north face gear is really practical, and i consider the price a fair value. I have from them a fleece pullover, a fleece jacket, a shell style jacket, a raincoat, and a winter coat.

None of the garments have had any problems and i bought them all four years ago.

My kids have one each. Some of their friends have literally 15-20 of the fucking things.

when I was in high school, my mom bought me a fall/early winter coat from ll bean. I hated that coat when i was a kid, but that was all she allowed me to have, even during the depths of winter.

I still have the coat, except for a broken zipper, it's in great shape and still keeps me warm. if I hadn't enlarged to my current size, I wouldn't have bought something else.

kids that age lose things and I would never buy them a GARMENT that costs that much for that reason. Also things get ripped off at school too.

Have her choose something from Fredericks of Hollywood.

None of the other kids will have this and they will respect her sense of style.

IF my kid ever gets a C I'd kick him or her out of the house.

Tell her know and that she's lucky she didn't get a beating for those grades.
