Yeah, I wish he would have come and talked to me. I can take comfort knowing that it was not something in the office that led to it. We do alot of work but it is really laid back and easy to keep up with things.

Sorry this happened dude.
Years ago a coworker / friend of mine killed his wife (brutal multiple stabbing). She had and filed for divorce but not moved out of their house. He was about 3 weeks into the situation and told me he was feeling down, asked me to get a drink with him in the bar in the building. I turned him down. He went anyway, had several drinks alone, went to the house and stabbed her dozens of times. Hid the body in a trash bin and left the state. They caught up with him a few days later.
I have felt guilty about not spending time with him that evening for over a decade.

Did he get life in prison or the death penalty?

Yeah Gary,
Its a real punch in the gut. But it happens. Ruined a good weekend. It will make for a somber week.

He did a plea bargain, got 30 years. Is currently eligible for parole but her family fought it when it came up for the first time.
He has no family. I'm the only coworker from his last job who still lives in Texas. I hope he never gets out, I really don't want him looking me up.

It certainly puts ones own problems into perspective.
My condolences to his family by the way.

Just like in the Army, probably should get one of his immediate buddies to sanitize his work area before any friends or family come pick up his shit.

which makes it even more profound. If anything, suicide could be a good solution to a tough problem.

He was an accountant. In Texas. I knew him but never did anything with him outside of work. There were not any looming layoffs or anything. Work has been solid. We don't have bullshit office politics that I know of either. I asked the lady who called me about it, if it could have been an accidental overdose. She said no, that he took his own life. She did not elaborate.
I might have to go to work tonight to get into his stuff, if I can find an IT person. Going to have to do a forensic audit on everything he touched in the last year, send letters to clients, etc.
KIND OF LIKE WHEN YOU DID A FORENSIC AUDIT OF THE COMPANY SHITTERS TO SEE WHO DID AND DID NOT USE EXCESS TP WHEN TAKING A SHIT ON THE COMPANY DIME?

He was an accountant. That's reason enough to kill yourself.
No kid dreams of growing up to be an accountant.
If you end up as an accountant, that means that you have given up on your dreams, and you should just kill yourself.
