At least he hasn't sunk as far as Robert Duvall, who went from A-lister to Kirk Cameron indie Jebus-flick straight-to-DVD co-star.
Every movie isn't The Godfather or Star Wars (or whatever you think is a really great movie). Most movies are shit and only a few are good. If you want to work steadily as an actor then the reality is that you will be in a lot of shitty movies. It is unavoidable.
No, some people really go through pains to pick good scripts.
I think it's more like this:
An actor turns in a handful of GREAT performances, in well-written movies, and gets to the point where he can command a salary of $10 million or more a film.
However, films with that level of budget aren't the cool indy films and the modest-but-well-written character driven scripts. Movies with those budgets tend to be things designed to be high-grossing "date movies" -- romantic comedies, action, etc. Those are very hard to gauge, going into them, which ones will be cool and which will be shit. Just look at the Batman franchise -- a couple of good movies, a couple of so-so ones, and a couple of shitty ones.
I sort of understand his need for exotic woman. I've accepted that I totally like asians. One experience with an asian woman with a tight pussy was enough. They all look the same too so if one gets too lippy I don't mind trading her in for a fresh one.
